The Indian cabinet cleared a set of bills related to the scope of Higher Education in India. The declaration will be signed between India and The USA.
In an unprecedented move to make the foundation of the Higher Education in India strong and effective, the Indian Cabinet cleared as many as three joint declarations of intent. The joint declaration will be started between India and the USA, paving way for the scope of higher education in both the countries.
The joint declarations come in the wake of withdrawal of the Higher Education Bill from the Rajya Sabha. The bill was passed in the year 2011.
Out of the three declarations, the first declaration of intent is aimed at active learning programs to encourage talented young minds. It will be called SWAYAM, which expands to Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds. It will cover the general population of India who would be taught and mentored by the elite panel of professors from IIT, NIT, Benaras Hindu University, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Indira Gandhi National Open University, IIM’s and Aligarh Muslim University.
The courses will be offered in engineering, management, energy, infrastructure and basic sciences. As per the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations, India and US will push for a new set of education standards for foreign universities. Called the Indo-US Partnership for Online Education (IUPOE) program, it will majorly comprise of a comprehensive mechanism to attract the top universities from the US and invite them to create and share their expertise in offering online courses in Post graduation and higher specializations based on the Indian SWAYAM platform.
