US-India Business Alliance starts the New Year with a new name - Alliance for US-India Business (AUSIB)
July 12, 2009

Washington, DC.  As the U.S.-India Business Alliance (AUSIB) enters its fifth year of existence, USIBA will now be known as the Alliance for U.S.-India Business (AUSIB).

When USIBA was formed in 2004, U.S.-India trade was about $20 billion. This has since more than doubled to $42 billion.  Along with this increased commerce, many other developments affecting business have occurred.

On October 1, 2008, the U.S. Congress gave final approval to an agreement facilitating nuclear cooperation between the United States and India.  The deal was seen as a watershed in U.S.-India relations.  First introduced in the joint statement released by President Bush and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July 18, 2005, the deal lifted a three-decade U.S. moratorium on nuclear trade with India.  The US and India are slowly moving toward a unique ‘alliance’ of shared interests.

USIBA’s name change will emphasize and reflect the growing strategic, political, economic and cultural bonds between the two leading democracies in the world, and will call attention to the enormous achievements in bilateral relations that have already been secured in the last four years.

This emerging alliance is vital to the most important issues facing humanity - terrorism, national security, and economic development – USIBA’s new name reflects the reality of this relationship.

USIBA, now AUSIB, has been a pioneer in leading trade missions to and from India, especially from US states. The organization is committed to build on, and expand this outreach in order to take people-to-people contact to new levels.

“We are re-dedicating ourselves so as to remain on the cutting edge of where we need to be to offer all companies virtually a ‘one-stop shop’ when it comes to entering the market or expanding already existing operations whether a large company or a SME whether in the U.S. or in India,” said Sanjay Puri, President & CEO of AUSIB.
