Digitalization and global educational exchange have changed the way we perceive education. Times that I travel across different parts of the world are when I wonder if investment by IT companies into technology and education will roll down some decent returns in times to come. All the business figures and the winning and losing kept apart, can we do what's right for students to improve the entire experience of learning?
I'm inspired everyday by the work of leaders, teachers, policymakers, and business leaders who work towards improving education worldwide a passion worth a thousand lives.
Some trends and educational ideas I feel will have an impact in 2012:
| 1: |
Education to focus on workforce ready students: Conventional Universities and educational institutions are likely to focus on preparing students for tomorrow. It will be more like envisioning workforces and creating activities oriented towards skills-oriented training outside the core subject.
|
| 2: |
Creative teaching methods: It makes sense to invest in teaching and professional enhancement of teachers. It probably is one of the most important investments we can make in the field of education. Rationally, one good teacher will reach out to thousands over a span of his/her career and make an impact on the future of a community and nation.

| 3: |
Cloud computing: Schools may start acknowledging the cloud is a key component to their digital content platform strategy to storage. Also, one of the greatest benefits: Data can be accessed using a Web browser which allows students to access their files and applications from anywhere in the world apart from their desk or laptop.
|
| 4: |
Data-driven learning. Data-driven education can help teachers customize learning by working on individualized lessons for students at different places in their course of learning.
|
| 5: |
Using device for learning: Digital learning can transform from a device conversation to a learning conversation. Technology supporting multiple devices will be a trend— laptops, slates, tablets, phones and the focus will be accessibility of content in different gadget environments at any time and place.
|

Digital syllabi & reading: The rise of digital reading is a reality for keeps. Textbook providers will focus on the transition and we will find some adopters over the world. It will also help schools save money on paper textbooks to fund these devices that will replace textbooks. In some countries like India, digitizing textbooks may need efforts. By focusing on the entire learning process for both students and teachers, connected to back-end systems can connect students to assessments, individual-focused learning and increased student interactivity. |
There are many technology driven companies like Microsoft, IBM etc who are working on digitalization. 2012 looks bright with devices like notebooks, tablets, slates, phone, Xbox, Kinect and others that depict the diversity and customization that needs to be done as part of learning experience.
