Figure this out. You are at your work desk and as usual have a tight schedule for the day ahead. You are required to clear the backlog, work on the present ones, forced to attend meetings whenever your boss pleases and also manage the herculean daily chores at home. Daily, you are bombarded with requests and orders that need your physical and mental presence while maintaining the quality and most importantly, the timeline. Bizarre. Isn’t it? Most of us have gone through and will still be going through this every day and still care less. So the question is - what are we finally up to? Overload!
Whom do we attribute this to? Who’s the real culprit? Many questions, yet it is the very same answer. It’s we, the people, who are directly or indirectly responsible for this sinking but undeniable truth of living. With competition increasing exponentially and the time for meeting those demands shrinking, there is very little that we can do to overcome this effect. In the end, it is not only us, but also our family that bears the brunt of this insanity.
Children, in particular, are most vulnerable to any kind of spikes that take places in our lives. Daily school, assignments, regular tests, peer pressure and the stress to perform from a very young age create a hysteria on their minds which confuses them on what to choose, where to start and what to end on. While we may try and negotiate our way out, it is they who may suffer in the long run. In case you are also one of those many individuals who agree, here are some suggestions on how you can prevent them from causing harm to your kids.
1. As young Turks, kids are up for almost anything, be it a sport, arts or an event. Make sure you know what your kid needs and exactly when to introduce them to it. Putting pressure on them to improve on their grades will unnecessarily increase their stress levels which unknowingly can have adverse mental effects on them. Try to channelize your vision through their interests.
2. Regularly check for signs of abnormal activity or hyper-activity in your kids. This is definitely an alarm for you.
3. Talk and share with them your thoughts and ask for their views on topics which are common to both of you. You might just discover your little kiddo is smarter than you are.
4. Reduce the amount your kid and you spend in front of the TV and the PC by encouraging them to pursue outdoor sports. This will not only make you child active but also improve his/her health.
5. Pelting your kids with more and more info will only baffle them and your kid may ultimately land nowhere without knowing what to finally get on with.
6. Lastly, it is very important that you spend quality time with your kids to make sure that they are not exposed to any kind of ill-effects from the overloaded society of ours.
Happy educating!
