On a Sunday morning I was watching news on the television and saw that someone has hacked the Internet Protocol Address of a person and sent some abusive messages to a third person. So being curios I started searching about the security features of Internet Protocol. After going through many books on networking I came to know that IPSec is being used for a secured Internet Protocol.
IPSec (abbreviated as Internet Protocol Security) is a protocol suite which uses the concept of cryptography. In day to day life we send a lot of data in the form of IP packets. This authentication of data is a part of IPSec. The benefit of IPSec is that the Internet Service Provider can know what type of data has been sent and who are the senders and receivers of that information. Though the data information can’t be shared by any other third party and the integrity of information is maintained.
Today we are using IPv4 for providing addresses to our IP but the limited capacity of IPv4 has made us think of IPv6. Since the capacity of IP addresses is larger than that of IPv4, the security concern arises and thus the IPSec comes into picture and to be used in future as well to provide securities on Internet. The IPSec can also be used to secure the communication media like Routers, Gateways and bridges by using cryptography keys.
For the implementation of IP Security, a user need not change its software or hardware.
The software and the hardware can be integrated with the existing one. This concept has allowed many firms or companies to track the detail of data sent by their employees. This also helped to restrict them from visiting certain websites. While browsing Internet, our data gets exposed to the outside world and to secure the data from outside world some sort of security is required which has raised the demand for IPSec. Due to increase in the demand of IPSec, the demand for IPSec administrator and engineer has also been increased.
So, for the need of security, a person should use the IPSec. Due to the large market demand the career in this field is flourishing. Companies and Users although have the IPSec from their Internet providers, they still use external IPSec so that reliability of internal data is increased and no unauthorized person can access our data.
