University Conferences

Bilateral trade between India and the US reached $41.75 billion in 2007-08. And India exported about $24 billion in IT, ITES, research and development and Engineering services to the United States in 2007.

What will India’s widening role as a key shaper of the world economy mean to the global marketplace? Business leaders, politicians and economists from India and elsewhere will take up that question as they gather at America’s most prestigious universities for a series of conferences co-sponsored by the Alliance for US India Business.

The conferences include:
  • “The Indian Growth Story: Sleeping Elephant or Roaring Tiger,” a March 15 event at HarvardBusinessSchool where students, businessmen and corporate officials will discuss the benefits and challenges of conducting business in India. The conference will also include panel discussions featuring prominent Indian business leaders, as well as keynote addresses from Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns, chief U.S. negotiator of the recent US-India bilateral accord on civil nuclear cooperation; and TP Chopra, CEO of General Electric India. •  A half-day conference scheduled for April 3, 2009 at the Yale School of Management focusing on opportunities and challenges faced by foreign investors, and on how the world financial crisis has impacted India’s economy. Panels will include leading entrepreneurs, policymakers and business leaders from both the US and India. More information is available at:http://students.som.yale.edu/clubs/SABF/conference2009/index.html
