Washington, DC. The US-India Business Alliance (AUSIB) congratulates President-elect Barack Obama on his election as President of the US. A large number of the Indian-American community enthusiastically supported President-elect Barack Obama and embraced his message of change.
“President-elect Obama clearly had a special appeal to the Indian-American community, had Indian-Americans in prominent positions in his campaign, and worked very diligently at reaching out to the community,” said Sanjay Puri, President of the U.S.-India Business Alliance (AUSIB). President-elect Obama has emphasized throughout his campaign that he will strengthen the relationship and a close strategic partnership with India and I have no doubt that it will be a high priority for him.
AUSIB looks forward to an Obama administration’s likely focus on two of the biggest challenges facing the United States today: energy and health care. "The United States and India both are dependent on foreign oil and have a joint stake in working together on renewable sources of energy, a task which could bolster the creation of jobs and economic security in both countries and ensure the sustainability of development", said Pramod Chaudhari, Chairman, Praj Industries, a global leader in Biofuels Technology.
Health care is another huge challenge and opportunity for the new administration given that over 45 million Americans are uninsured and health care costs are over $2 trillion a year. "By working together, United States and India can possibly bring about very significant efficiencies in health care for people of both countries through joint partnerships, alliances and collaborations on application of novel exciting technologies on electronic medical records and telemedicine, thus providing access to all at affordable prices" said Mak Jawadekar, Director, Portfolio Management & Performance, Pfizer Global R & D.
“President-elect Obama believes trade with foreign countries should strengthen the American economy and create more American jobs,” said Congressman Paul Hodes (D-NH-2), a Member of the House Financial Services and Oversight and Government Reform Committees, and a National Co-Chair for the Obama campaign. “He will stand firm for fair trade and against agreements that undermine our economic security. An Obama administration will understand that trade should be mutually beneficial and fair.”
